Viral infection causes a number of diseases that are faced not only by adults, but also by children. Unfortunately, babies are the ones most affected by the virus.
Modern medicine has a whole range of antiviral drugs that help patients quickly cope with the infection. One of the most effective and relatively safe pediatricians consider the drug Isoprinosine.

Duration of treatment
The duration of treatment depends on the disease and the condition of the small patient. With different diseases, the duration of treatment, of course, is different. Consider the terms of treatment with Isoprinosine for various diseases:
- Diseases in acute form . The duration of treatment for such diseases is from 5 to 14 days. The child should drink pills until all symptoms of the disease disappear, plus two more days.
- Viral infections of a long course . With a protracted course of the disease, you can take the drug for more than two weeks, but an increase in the duration of treatment should be done only under the supervision of a physician.
- Diseases of a relapsing nature . With relapses of chronic diseases, the drug should be taken until the symptoms disappear completely, then another two weeks. You can be treated according to another scheme: after the symptoms pass, take Isoprinosine for another month, 1 tablet per day.
- Chronic diseases . In the chronic course of the disease, several ten-day courses of treatment should be completed with breaks of 7-8 days.
Prevention
For children with reduced immunity, immunostimulants are indicated for the prevention of viral infections. Usually, a preventive course is prescribed by a doctor in the fall or spring.
Taking funds that enhance immunity is justified in stressful situations, with climate change. Before giving your child an immunostimulant, you should always consult with an immunologist or at least with a pediatrician.
They will select the appropriate medicine for the child and calculate the required dose. The course of treatment on average lasts at least two weeks. The dosage is calculated according to the formula: 50 mg of the drug per day for each kilogram of the child’s weight.
Consequences of an overdose
Cases of overdose of Isoprinosine have not been recorded. But in case of an overdose, you should induce vomiting and immediately call an ambulance.
Side effects and contraindications
Isopronisin is contraindicated in children under one year old, and in tablet form – in children under three years old. The medicine is also contraindicated in children weighing less than 15 kilograms. Taking this medicine is prohibited if the child has the following diseases:
- hypersensitivity to any ingredient of the drug;
- kidney disease;
- arrhythmia;
- urolithiasis disease;
- gout.
Sometimes during therapy with Isoprinosine, the following side effects may occur:
- skin itching;
- nausea, vomiting;
- weakness, dizziness;
- joint pain;
- pain in the upper abdomen;
- headache;
- sleep disturbance;
- constipation or diarrhea;
- an increase in the amount of urine.
Taking the pills can raise the level of urea in the blood, as well as increase the activity of liver enzymes.
Interactions with other drugs
The effectiveness of Isoprinosine will significantly decrease with the simultaneous use of drugs from the group of immunosuppressants.
The combined use of other antiviral agents, such as alpha interferon, acyclovir and zidovudine, enhances the antiviral effect.
When diuretics or aspirin are used together with this drug, the concentration of uric acid in the blood increases and, accordingly, the risk of gout increases. This is also facilitated by the simultaneous use of Isoprinosine and xanthine oxidase inhibitor, allopurinol.
Medicine price
The price of the medicine depends on the manufacturer, the number of tablets in the package, and it also varies in different regions of the country.
In online stores, the following price for Isoprinosine: a package of 20 tablets costs 600–700 rubles, a package of 30 tablets costs 900–1000 rubles, a package of 50 tablets costs approximately 1500 rubles.

Reviews
Reviews about this drug are very different, and sometimes diametrically opposed. Some parents speak positively about the medicine, they believe that the medicine normalized the child’s condition and quickly put him on his feet.
Others complain that the medicine not only did not help, but even had a negative effect on the liver. There are a lot of complaints about the high cost and form of the drug. Parents find the pills very uncomfortable and difficult for children to swallow.
Doctors’ opinions also differ. Some doctors consider the medicine highly effective, others – absolutely useless. We only note that the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences classifies Isoprinosine as an obsolete drug with unproven efficacy.
