A spinous is a painful and rapidly growing neoplasm, often appearing on the fingers (sometimes pathological growths can form on the soles of the feet).
Outwardly, the spine is a growth with a keratinized top layer, and painful sensations are caused by the roots of the formation, penetrating deep enough into the epidermis. Such growths must be removed, since the disease does not respond well to therapy.

Causes of growths on the finger, palm
As a rule, HPV (human papillomavirus), which is always present in the human body, becomes the cause of the appearance of an unpleasant and pathogenic growth.
Provoke its development and, as a result, the appearance of neoplasms, perhaps a sharp decrease in immunity (colds or stress).
Sometimes an outgrowth may appear after pathogenic microorganisms enter the microcracks of the skin (after a handshake). Unfavorable factors that often provoke the formation and development of spines also become:
- increased sweating or, conversely, excessive dryness of the palms;
- hypothermia;
- contact of extremities with chemicals;
- HIV infection.
Appearance of the growth: how to distinguish it from ordinary corn?
The appearance of a spike is similar to the formation of a callus – a small, rather dense elevation appears on the surface of the skin (most often on the fingers around the nails, pads or side of the hand).
However, when pressing on such a neoplasm, there is a sharp pain – this distinguishes the spine from the usual corn (which, as a rule, is painless).
In addition to the keratinized upper layer, the spine has multiple filiform growths covered with small papillae that penetrate deep into the muscle layers.
That is why the removal of only the upper layer of the neoplasm leads to its re-growth – new spines appear due to the papillae that remain in the depth of the skin. Sometimes there are several neoplasms that can grow together.
At the first stage of its development, the spine resembles a common corn: the skin in a certain place coarsens, acquiring a whitish-yellow color.
An ordinary callus appears and quickly disappears: a watery bubble with liquid forms at the site of friction, which soon disappears and the callus heals within a few days. When a spike is formed inside the growth, the liquid does not accumulate.
Stages of disease development
Pathology has several stages of its development, each of which is characterized by clinical symptoms:
- The appearance of a small tubercle and coarsening of the skin around the neoplasm.
- The appearance of acute, sharp pain (similar to a needle prick) when pressing on the growth.
- An increase in the size of the spine, darkening and peeling of its upper layers.
- With the development of the pathological process, the appearance of small neoplasms around the main growth (penetration of the spine roots deep into the tissues) is noticeable.
- When the spine is pressed or damaged, a cloudy, purulent liquid is released.
What are the symptoms and manifestations of the disease?
A spikelet looks flatter than a wart or callus, but feels firmer to the touch. If you look at the growth under a microscope, you can see a large number of small papillae, which, over time, spread deep under the skin – which is why it is always extremely difficult to remove the spine.
Often the growths are located in small groups: one large wart (with a deep conical center) is located in the middle, and around it are several smaller ones. Surgeons say that it is enough to remove the “womb”, and all small neoplasms will disappear on their own.
Pharmaceutical products for the treatment of formations
You can get rid of the build-up at home – both with the help of various medicines, and using traditional medicine recipes.
Liquid products for the treatment of the affected area
Ferezol, Supercleaner, Cryopharm, Argonika – can be purchased at a pharmacy (for the effectiveness of the result and in order to prevent the development of complications, it would be better if the doctor prescribes medications).
The drugs are quite toxic and are intended for external use – thanks to the substances that make up their composition, they penetrate deep into the skin and destroy the pathological growth.
To achieve a greater effect, before using the drugs, the skin around the spine must be steamed out, and it is desirable to treat the growth with pumice (provided that the procedure does not cause pain).
Pencils for precise application
They contain silver nitrate, which leads to drying of the keratinized layer of the spine and the death of pathological growth cells.
It is necessary to use pencils until the build-up completely disappears, however, it is still not recommended to remove the spines with a pencil on the visible parts of the body, since after such treatment scars may appear at the site of the formations.
plasters
They consist of an adhesive tape, a special ring filled with the active substance in the form of a pink powder. Such a patch is glued to the growth (with a ring directly on the top of the neoplasm) and left for several hours.
Ointments and gels
You can buy Ferezol, Malavit, Viferon, salicylic ointment at the pharmacy, or you can make it yourself using herbal ingredients.
The rules for applying such ointments and gels: the build-up must first be steamed and cut off the upper part, apply a bandage with ointment and fix it with a plaster. It is necessary to use funds repeatedly, until the complete disappearance of the neoplasm.
Mechanical removal methods
There are two ways to treat such growths – surgical removal and drug therapy. It is not recommended to burn the spike on your own, because you can accidentally damage healthy areas of the skin, but not remove the virus that causes its development.
Removal of papilloma can be significantly delayed if a person goes to the doctor after multiple growths of warts.
Such surgical procedures are carried out only in sterile conditions of a medical institution by a surgeon, subject to the simultaneous administration of immunomodulators to increase the patient’s resistance to papillomaviruses:
Electrocoagulation
Electrocoagulation – excision of the spine by exposure to high-frequency current passed through a metal loop.
The procedure is a little painful, but quite effectively affects not only the growth, but also its processes, causing the death of pathological cells.
laser therapy
The most effective and painless method of removing the spine, as a result of laser exposure, not only the growth itself dies (without subsequent scarring and scarring), but also the death of all virus cells that cause the growth and development of the neoplasm.
Cryodestruction
Freezing the neoplasm by applying several layers of liquid nitrogen to the spine. The technique contributes to the rapid and painless removal of the build-up, but retains the risk of re-development of the pathological process, since liquid nitrogen does not directly affect the viral cells – the cause of the spine.
Surgery
It is used in the presence of multiple growths, lesions of sufficiently large areas of the skin, or in cases where all other methods of treatment have not brought the expected result.
The operation is performed under local anesthesia (since it is very painful) and consists in excising the growth and its roots with a scalpel. Often this method is used at a high risk of recurrence of the pathological process.
How to prevent build-up?
Spike on the palms or fingers is easier to prevent than to cure, so it is necessary to pay close attention to preventive measures:
- carefully monitor compliance with all rules of personal hygiene;
- take care of the skin of the hands with the help of special cosmetic products;
- strengthen immunity; adhere to a balanced diet, in which the body receives all the necessary substances and trace elements;
- immediately treat any microtrauma of the hands with antiseptic solutions and preparations.
These recommendations can prevent the appearance of papilloma, they also help strengthen immunity. This also reduces the likelihood of manifestation of any disease.
